Terumo India Skills

In a significant move to strengthen cardiovascular care and competency-based medical education in India, Terumo India Skill Lab (TISL), in collaboration with AIIMS Patna, launched the inaugural edition of MASTR KAIZEN (Masterclass in Advanced Stent Techniques and Reconstruction) on 8–9 July 2026. The two-day national programme is designed to equip young cardiologists and super-specialty trainees with advanced skills in complex coronary interventions through simulation-based learning, live workshops, expert lectures, and case-based discussions.

The initiative focuses on enhancing procedural expertise in Advanced Bifurcation and Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)—two of the most technically challenging procedures in interventional cardiology. Participants are receiving hands-on training in advanced stent deployment techniques, intravascular imaging, procedural planning, and complication management using high-fidelity simulators that replicate complex coronary anatomies in a risk-free environment.

Simulation-based medical education is increasingly being recognised as a transformative approach to clinical training. By allowing trainees to repeatedly practice complex procedures before performing them on patients, the programme enhances technical competence, improves clinical decision-making, and significantly strengthens patient safety. The immersive learning model also enables participants to identify and manage potential complications without exposing patients to procedural risks.

Held under the chief patronage of Prof. (Brig.) Dr. Raju Agarwal, Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, the programme features academic leadership from Dr. Kenichiro Shimoji, a renowned interventional cardiologist from Japan, and Dr. Anupam Bhambhani, Head of the Department of Cardiology at AIIMS Patna. Their collaboration provides participants with valuable exposure to internationally accepted best practices and advanced procedural techniques in coronary interventions.

Speaking on the initiative, Shishir Agarwal, President & Managing Director of Terumo India, said the company remains committed to empowering the next generation of cardiologists with globally benchmarked procedural skills that improve patient outcomes. He emphasised that the programme aligns with Terumo’s mission of contributing to society through healthcare by promoting high-quality, patient-centred cardiovascular care.

The MASTR KAIZEN programme reinforces the growing importance of industry-academia collaboration in advancing medical education and clinical excellence. By creating a sustainable platform for skill development, international knowledge exchange, and innovation in cardiovascular sciences, the initiative is expected to enhance the capabilities of young specialists while supporting safer, more precise, and technology-enabled cardiac care across India.
