Novartis Expands Hyderabad GCC as Largest Global Capability Hub

Swiss drugmaker Novartis has scaled its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad into its largest global operations hub, strengthening India’s role in the company’s enterprise and innovation strategy.

Established in 2001 with a small team, the Hyderabad centre has grown to nearly 9,000 employees, supporting a wide spectrum of global functions. These include research and development, clinical operations, pharmacovigilance, commercial operations, finance, supply chain, quality, procurement, and human resources.

Drug development represents the largest vertical at the GCC, with teams managing clinical trial design, site feasibility, clinical data management, biostatistics, and global study execution. Pharmacovigilance operations also form a significant component, supporting global drug safety and monitoring requirements.

The facility has expanded into scientific and laboratory capabilities with the addition of formulation development and analytical research functions at Genome Valley. These activities include stability studies and formulation science, integrating Hyderabad into Novartis’ global R&D network.

Beyond R&D, the GCC plays a central role in enterprise operations, including marketing analytics, sales planning, launch readiness, competitive intelligence, and digital transformation initiatives. Finance operations, regulatory quality, procurement, and HR shared services are also managed from the site.

The scale-up reflects Novartis’ organisational transition toward a focused innovative medicines model, with India positioned as a strategic capability and operations base supporting global business delivery.

The Hyderabad GCC continues to function as an integrated hub driving clinical, scientific, commercial, and enterprise support operations within Novartis’ global operating framework.
