Novo Medi Sciences Pvt. Ltd. has announced the launch of NEXIPOX PLUS®, a next-generation varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, developed using an advanced formulation designed to address clinical and operational needs in India.

NEXIPOX PLUS® has been developed to improve stability and potency retention of live attenuated varicella vaccines, which are known to be thermolabile. The vaccine uses a 2× trehalose-based stabiliser system, replacing conventional stabilisers such as gelatin and mannitol. This formulation enhances viral stability, preserves potency, and reduces the risk of allergic reactions and antigen crystallisation, supporting reliable vaccine performance during storage, handling and administration.

Clinical data generated in Indian patients showed high immunogenicity, with a 98% seroconversion rate after a two-dose schedule and a 35.4-fold geometric mean rise in antibody titres, indicating a strong immune response against the varicella virus. The vaccine demonstrated a favourable safety profile, with no serious adverse events causally linked to the product in comparative clinical trials. The removal of gelatin from the formulation further supports improved tolerability.

NEXIPOX PLUS® has been developed with consideration for affordability, scalability and operational reliability, supporting its use in routine immunisation and private practice. The launch comes as chickenpox prevalence remains high in India, and the vaccine is intended to support efforts to improve vaccination compliance and reduce disease burden.

The vaccine has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for use from 12 months of age. The formulation technology used in NEXIPOX PLUS® is patented in 156 countries, indicating global regulatory readiness. International expansion strategies are being evaluated based on public health needs and sustainable supply considerations.

Novo Medi Sciences stated that the launch of NEXIPOX PLUS® reflects its focus on formulation-led vaccine innovation, aimed at enhancing stability, safety and consistency in immunisation practices.
