Qure.ai Secures Gates Foundation Grant to Develop AI-Powered Point-of-Care Ultrasound

Qure.ai has received a multimillion-dollar global health grant from the Gates Foundation to develop AI-powered point-of-care ultrasound solutions aimed at improving early diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) and pneumonia, particularly in under-resourced regions.

The grant will support the development of a large open-source, multi-modal database aligned with WHO lung health diagnostic pathways. The database will include non-identifiable clinical history, chest X-rays, thoracic ultrasound, high-resolution CT scans, cough and lung sound recordings, and laboratory or biological markers. This resource will enable researchers and innovators worldwide to develop, validate and refine AI models for lung health diagnostics.

As part of the initiative, Qure.ai will build AI-enabled point-of-care ultrasound algorithms to support early detection of TB and pneumonia. Both diseases are curable when identified early, yet they remain among the leading causes of death globally, particularly in low-resource settings.

“In a bid to reach the unreachable we have innovated our way around the world over the last 10 years, taking AI-enabled X-ray to some of the remotest regions of sub-Saharan Africa, to the heights of Everest and depths of rural Southeast Asia, tackling the detection and diagnosis of TB. This is powerful progress that has reduced diagnosis rates from 14 days to 1-2 days, without even a clinician present. Now, with this grant from the Gates Foundation, we are excited to leverage this expertise further to scale and reach more people,” states Prashant Warier, Founder and CEO of Qure.ai.

The project builds on Qure.ai’s existing work in deploying AI-enabled imaging solutions for public health, including the use of AI-powered chest X-ray systems for TB detection in remote and hard-to-reach regions. These solutions have helped reduce diagnosis timelines and improve access to care even in locations without on-site clinicians.

The grant supports Qure.ai’s continued focus on health equity, digital diagnostics, and scalable AI solutions for global health. The company currently operates across 105+ countries and more than 4,800 healthcare sites worldwide, supporting the identification and management of TB, lung cancer and neurocritical conditions such as stroke.
