Apollo Hospitals Group has launched Apollo Athenaa, Asia’s first dedicated women-centric cancer care centre, in the national capital. The new facility, established through a strategic collaboration between Apollo Indraprastha Hospital and Apollo Home Healthcare, marks a significant leap in India’s oncology landscape, setting new benchmarks in gender-specific cancer care.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Smt. Rekha Gupta as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the Growing Cancer Burden Among Women
India reports over 1.4 million new cancer cases annually, with women accounting for a substantial proportion of this rising disease burden. Breast cancer alone contributes nearly 2 lakh new cases each year, while cervical, ovarian, and uterine cancers continue to pose major health challenges. Alarmingly, almost 60% of diagnosed patients do not survive, underscoring the urgent need for early detection and integrated treatment models.
Apollo Athenaa aims to bridge these gaps through a comprehensive continuum of oncology care—from prevention and diagnostics to treatment, rehabilitation, and home-based support—offering women access to precision care delivered in a nurturing, patient-centric environment.
A New Model of Women’s Oncology Care
“Athenaa is more than a facility—it is a care model,” said Vishal Lathwal, CEO, Apollo Home Healthcare. “By integrating hospital-based treatment with home-based rehabilitation and palliative services, we are reimagining how oncology care is delivered to women in India.”
The centre features:
- Advanced genomic and molecular diagnostics
- Precision-based targeted therapies and robotic-assisted procedures
- Multidisciplinary tumour board reviews for every case
- Integration with Apollo Home Healthcare’s Palliative Care at Home programme for post-treatment support
This hybrid care approach is designed to reduce avoidable hospital visits, strengthen patient-family engagement, and improve quality of life throughout the cancer journey.
Expanding the Athenaa Network
Apollo Hospitals also announced plans to replicate the Athenaa model across other metros in the coming years, creating a network of women-centric oncology excellence centres seamlessly linked with Apollo’s hospitals and home healthcare vertical. Future expansion will focus on:
- Building research collaborations and clinical trial infrastructure
- Leveraging digital health tools like teleconsultations and remote monitoring to improve access
- Enhancing screening and early detection programmes tailored for women
