Alcon, a global leader in eye care, has announced the launch of its next-generation UNITY® Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS) and UNITY® Cataract System (CS) in India. Designed to enhance surgical efficiency and precision, the UNITY platform introduces first-to-market technologies that aim to transform both cataract and vitreoretinal procedures.

The UNITY VCS, a combined console, is now available in India, while the standalone UNITY CS will follow in the coming months. These systems incorporate advanced features such as the UNITY 4D Phaco, which delivers up to 2X faster nucleus removal with significantly less energy delivered into the eye, and HYPERVIT® 30K, the world’s fastest vitrectomy probe executing 30,000 cuts per minute.

The UNITY platform introduces several breakthroughs, including:

• UNITY Intelligent Fluidics: Real-time pressure and flow control for stable intraocular conditions.
• UNITY Intelligent Sentry & Thermal Sentry: Next-gen sensors for chamber stability and real-time incision temperature monitoring.
• UNITY 27-Gauge Portfolio: Proprietary instruments with enhanced stiffness for precise vitreoretinal surgery.
• UNITY TetraSpot Laser Probe: Enables up to four simultaneous laser spots, cutting laser application time by threefold.
• UNITY Illumination: Customizable light profiles with reduced blue light exposure and extended reliability.

Early adopters, such as leading ophthalmic surgeons in Japan, have reported streamlined workflows, improved efficiency, and better patient outcomes with UNITY technologies.

With CDSCO approval secured in India, the UNITY VCS/CS systems are the first offerings from Alcon’s new UNITY portfolio of surgical solutions. The platform also integrates Intelligent Service Solutions, including predictive service support and remote capabilities, to reduce downtime for surgical centres.
