New GCC to act as a strategic hub for global digital transformation initiatives in healthcare; focus on data science, pharmaceutical research, and academic-industry synergy.
Eisai Pharmaceuticals India, a leading global human health care (HHC) company, has announced the upcoming launch of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The centre, which will officially begin operations in February 2026, will serve as a core engine for Eisai’s digital transformation and healthcare technology innovation efforts worldwide.
The announcement was made during a strategic visit by Makoto Hoketsu, Global Chief Information Officer of Eisai Pharmaceuticals, to GITAM (Deemed to be University). During his visit, Hoketsu engaged in discussions with M. Sribharat, Member of Parliament and President of GITAM, to explore meaningful academic-industry collaborations focused on advancing pharmaceutical R&D and healthcare digitisation.
Building a Future-Ready Healthcare Tech Hub in India
The upcoming GCC represents a strategic expansion of Eisai’s presence in India, particularly in the digital innovation space. Eisai has operated a manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam since 2009, and the new centre builds on this foundation by tapping into India’s vast digital talent pool and tech ecosystem.
Makoto Hoketsu emphasised Eisai’s commitment to leveraging India’s technology capabilities to reimagine healthcare delivery. “Our goal is to harness digital excellence to develop cutting-edge, patient-centric healthcare solutions that adapt to changing global needs. India, and Visakhapatnam in particular, offers the right ecosystem to drive this innovation forward,” he said.
Collaboration with GITAM: Academia Meets Industry
The engagement between Eisai and GITAM Deemed to be University aims to pave the way for joint research in data science, pharmaceutical technologies, artificial intelligence, and clinical informatics.
- Sribharat noted, “This collaboration unlocks opportunities for students and researchers to contribute to real-world pharmaceutical innovation. With our academic strength in emerging technologies and Eisai’s global expertise, this partnership can catalyse breakthroughs in healthcare informatics and personalised medicine.”
Government-Backed Innovation Ecosystem
The development of the GCC has received support from the Government of Andhra Pradesh and is strategically located within the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ). This reinforces Andhra Pradesh’s positioning as an emerging hub for life sciences and health technology, while attracting further global investment into the state’s knowledge economy.
Transforming Global Healthcare from India
The Visakhapatnam GCC will serve as a global digital nerve centre, enabling Eisai to co-develop and implement scalable healthcare solutions, from AI-powered drug development tools to advanced data analytics for clinical decision support. It aligns with Eisai’s broader mission to enhance quality of life by addressing unmet medical needs through a combination of science, empathy, and technology.
By establishing this innovation-centric hub, Eisai is not only strengthening its digital capabilities but also contributing to India’s vision of becoming a global leader in tech-enabled healthcare delivery.
Eisai’s new Global Capability Centre in Visakhapatnam signals a significant step in integrating technology and life sciences to build a more accessible, efficient, and responsive global healthcare system. With academic partnerships, strong government support, and a focus on innovation, the centre is poised to emerge as a model for how global pharma companies can co-create the future of healthcare—right from the heart of India.
