The Central Mental Health Authority (CMHA) has appointed Devendra Kumar Saini as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant leadership development for India’s mental healthcare governance framework.
Saini assumes the role at a time when the country is strengthening mental health services through improved policy implementation, digital healthcare initiatives, and expanded access to quality mental healthcare under the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017. As CEO, he will play a key role in supporting the Authority’s mandate of regulating mental health establishments, protecting the rights of persons with mental illness, and promoting quality mental healthcare services across the country.
The Central Mental Health Authority functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and is responsible for registering and supervising mental health establishments, maintaining professional standards, and advising the government on policies related to mental healthcare. The Authority also works to ensure compliance with statutory provisions while encouraging accessible, affordable, and rights-based mental healthcare.
