In a landmark event celebrating five decades of excellence, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge medical equipment at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) during its golden jubilee celebrations. The occasion, held at the NIMHANS Convention Centre in Bengaluru, also saw the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil, underscoring the importance of mental health and neuroscience in India’s healthcare agenda.
Enhancing Diagnostic Capabilities with AI-Enabled Technology
A highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of advanced medical equipment, including an AI-enabled 3T MRI scanner and a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) machine. The 3T MRI scanner offers high-resolution imaging, aiding in early and accurate diagnoses. The DSA machine, equipped with 3D rotational angiography, will enhance the assessment and treatment of brain conditions. These technological advancements are poised to elevate NIMHANS’ diagnostic precision and patient care capabilities, setting a benchmark in mental health and neurosciences.
New Facilities to Bolster Mental Health Services
President Murmu also unveiled key infrastructure projects, including a new psychiatry block, central library complex, and hostel building, aimed at enhancing the institute’s academic, research, and clinical capacity. These additions will support NIMHANS’ mission to integrate innovative research with exceptional patient care.
In her address, President Murmu commended NIMHANS for its pioneering contributions, stating,
“NIMHANS has set a global standard in mental health and neurosciences through its innovative research, rigorous academic programs, and exceptional patient care. The Bellary model of community-based mental healthcare stands as a testament to its impactful work.”
