The 13th Elets Healthcare Innovation Summit and Awards 2024, hosted by Elets Technomedia in association with eHealth Magazine, brought together industry leaders, policy-makers, and other stakeholders to explore the transformative potential of digital healthcare.

Held on 7-8 June 2024 in Eros Hotel, Nehru Place, New Delhi, the summit witnessed vibrant discussions, insightful panel sessions, and thought-provoking presentations, setting a new benchmark in healthcare innovation.

The special highlight of the event was the keynote session by Madhukar Kumar Bhagat, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Family Welfare, Government of India who emphasised the integral role of technology in healthcare.

Commending the 13th Elets Healthcare Innovation Summit as a collaborative initiative aimed at driving innovation and progress within the country’s healthcare system, Mr. Bhagat remarked, “A few years ago, the introduction of Aadhaar, the JAM Trinity, and widespread mobile connectivity revolutionised the fintech sector in India. Similarly, a significant transformation is horizon for the digital health sector. Concepts like interoperability and access to personal electronic health records are emerging, enabling the seamless transfer and standardisation of health information.”

Nawin Sona, Principal Secretary, Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra outlined Maharashtra’s comprehensive approach to healthcare digitisation, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The state’s recent adoption of a universal healthcare policy integrates schemes like PM Jan Arogya Yojana and the Mahatma Phule Scheme, removing income criteria for secondary healthcare services. “We have developed digital health profiles for 5 crore people, integrating these with Electronic Health Records (EHR) for a holistic view of the population,” Sona stated, emphasising the role of technology in preventive healthcare planning.

Ranjan Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh also added his invaluable perspective to the discussion. Addressing the diverse healthcare needs of Uttar Pradesh’s vast and varied population, Ranjan Kumar emphasised the critical role of digitisation. “The state government has deployed many frontline and ASHA workers for point-of-care testing,” he noted. 

He further stated,  “Large-scale digitisation of healthcare infrastructure is imperative, and prioritising resources is essential due to our limitations.” He also highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s pioneering efforts in the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, excelling in parameters such as the creation of digital IDs and health cards, facilitated by robust public-private partnerships.

The summit also witnessed the launch of a special edition of eHealth Magazine, marking a significant milestone in Elets’ journey toward promoting innovation in healthcare. The power-packed day progressed with insightful panel discussions, fireside chats, industry presentations, and networking sessions.

The panel discussions at the summit covered diverse aspects of healthcare innovation. Discussions on “Healthcare in Digital India: Bridging Gaps in Healthcare Innovations” delved into the harmonious integration of technology into healthcare delivery, featuring esteemed speakers such Ranjan Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh; N. Nawin Sona, Principal Secretary, Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra; Dr. Urvashi Prasad, Director, Office of Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog. 

Another panel focused on “Harnessing Technology and Policy Integration for Solving Healthcare Problems”, exploring the policies that can be integrated along with technological aid so that healthcare issues can be resolved, with experts like Dr. Shafqat Khan, Public Health Specialist Health Department, J&K and Expert AI and Ease of Doing Business J&K; Dr. K. Madan Gopal, Advisor – Public Health Administration National Health Systems Resource Centre’s, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Former Senior Consultant, NITI Aayog; Ranjan Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Uttar Pradesh providing valuable insights.

The summit featured a series of industry presentations, offering a platform for showcasing innovative solutions and case studies that are shaping the future of healthcare. Covering a wide array of topics, these presentations delved into areas such as “Monitoring Simplified” and “Innovative Transformations in Healthcare: Success Stories,” providing attendees with valuable insights into the latest advancements and initiatives in the healthcare sector.

One notable presentation titled “Impact of Market Research on Product or Drug Development,” led by Muthuvel Shanmugam, Director – Operations, Survience Research, and Consulting LLP, highlighted the importance of delivering tailored drugs according to the requirements of the market. 

The 2-day summit concluded on a high note with the 13th Elets Healthcare Innovation Awards Ceremony, recognising and celebrating exemplary contributions towards healthcare innovation.
