Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, has commenced the ground-breaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art Research and Development (R&D) center in Pune, Maharashtra, showcasing India’s burgeoning significance in healthcare innovation worldwide. Situated across a sprawling 10-acre plot in MIDC, Chinchwad, the forthcoming facility, in its initial phase, will encompass an office space of approximately 300,000 sq. ft and is slated to accommodate 1900 employees.

The new center, set to be operational within two years, will house R&D teams from Philips’ Image Guided Therapy, Precision Diagnosis, Monitoring, Sleep & Respiratory businesses. By consolidating all teams under one roof, Philips aims to optimize scalability, velocity, and efficiency while fostering resource and best practice sharing across diverse business units. With a focus on pioneering health technologies, the upcoming center will significantly contribute to Philips’ global mission of enhancing the lives of 2.5 billion individuals annually by 2030.

Emphasizing a staunch commitment to sustainability, the new center will incorporate Green Power initiatives, provision for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging, and promote bicycle commuting. Besides serving as a pivotal milestone in Philips’ global expansion, the establishment of this center underscores the company’s dedication to adopting a technology-centric approach towards extending access to quality healthcare.

Cumulatively employing over 9000 professionals, Philips’ Healthcare Innovation Centre in Pune, the Innovation Campus in Bengaluru, the Global Business Services in Chennai, and its commercial team headquartered in Gurgaon, constitute integral components of Philips’ operations in India. Together, they are steadfastly committed to supporting the Indian government in its endeavors to bolster the medical devices industry and achieve healthcare objectives.

Commenting on the initiative, Bert van Meurs, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Leader of Image Guided Therapy at Philips, stated, “Since its inception 130 years ago, Philips has been driven by a sharp focus on innovating for the future. In keeping with this objective, our Healthcare Innovation Centre in Pune provides unique and far-reaching capabilities to address the needs of both Indian and global markets. This new center will further strengthen our commitment to supporting the Indian healthcare ecosystem with innovative and sustainable solutions and leveraging the same for customers globally”.

Peeyush Kaushik, Vice President and Head of Healthcare Innovation Center, Pune, echoed this sentiment, asserting, “Philips Healthcare Innovation Centre is at the forefront of understanding and responding to some of the outstanding healthcare challenges both in India and in global geographies. With the launch of this new centre, we will be able to design more innovative end-to-end solutions and collaborate better with healthcare providers as we look to meet our common goal of attaining better health outcomes”.

Established in 2011, Philips Healthcare Innovation Centre (HIC), Pune, specializes in multi-modality healthcare R&D, smart manufacturing, end-to-end product development, and operational excellence. Aligned with the Indian government’s Make in India initiative, the center is dedicated to fostering an innovation ecosystem and delivering cost-effective global products.

The inauguration of the new R&D center in Pune follows the unveiling of Philips India’s innovation campus in Yelahanka, Bengaluru, in November 2023. Spanning 650,000 sq. ft and accommodating over 5,000 professionals, the Bengaluru campus underscores Philips’ commitment to pioneering health technologies aimed at enhancing patient experiences, improving health outcomes, and reducing the cost of care.
