The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has formulated a plan of action to enhance the quality of health services provided at its prominent hospitals.

According to the MCD’s hospital administration department, they have secured funds amounting to Rs 118 crore under the grant-in-aid scheme for the fiscal year 2023-24, sanctioned by the Delhi government. This allocation includes Rs 63.7 crore under the ‘general’ category and Rs 54.8 crore under the ‘capital’ category.

The MCD plans to utilize the funds under the general category for various projects across eight hospitals. This includes allocating Rs 14 crore to Hindu Rao Hospital, Rs 4.5 crore to North DMC Medical College, Rs 8 crore to Kasturba Hospital, Rs 1.5 crore to Girdhari Lal Maternity Hospital, Rs 6 crore to Rajan Babu Hospital, Rs 1.5 crore to Balak Ram, Rs 8.1 crore to Swami Dayanand Hospital, and Rs 5 crore to Mata Gujri Hospital in Tilak Nagar.

Additionally, Rs 15.2 crore will be dedicated to colony hospitals, dispensaries, polyclinics, maternity services, and child welfare management facilities.

The MCD has prioritized immediate attention to those projects in the primary healthcare sector that require urgent improvement. Some of these projects include procuring dialysis machines, ventilators, monitors, and defibrillators for various departments at Hindu Rao Hospital. Tender processes have already been initiated for some of these projects. Other finalized projects include acquiring an ultrasound machine for the radiology department at Swami Dayanand Hospital, establishing a fetomaternal monitor unit at Kasturba Hospital, improving existing toilet blocks, drainage and water supply systems, waterproofing the terrace, and conducting special repairs for the OPD and emergency block at Hindu Rao Hospital.

Mayor Shelly Oberoi recently visited several major MCD hospitals and identified various deficiencies, urging the authorities to rectify them promptly.

Furthermore, the funds received will be used for laying sewer lines from the OT block to the effluent treatment plant at Rajan Babu Hospital, installing fire check doors and completing the lobby at Balak Ram Hospital, and constructing a toilet for the elderly and disabled individuals, as well as conducting repairs at the M&CW center in Nangloi.

An official stated that the proposed projects encompass both the improvement and upgrading of existing healthcare centers, as well as the procurement of essential equipment to ensure optimal healthcare services for patients.

On an average working day, approximately 23,728 patients seek OPD services at various MCD health units. The MCD has introduced an e-OPD service where people can register online, extending this service to 188 health facilities, as per the official’s statement.
