Lumpy Skin Disease

Due to the rise of Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle in neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana and sporadic cases in Chandigarh UT, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Chandigarh Administration is bringing up all preventive measures to prevent the disease in the city. All types of assistance including free medicines for the treatment of their animals, and general awareness to check the spread of disease are being provided to Livestock owner’s at the doorstep.

Awareness campaigns and round-the-clock surveillance of disease are being brought out in all the villages of Chandigarh. Fogging and fumigation are also being done regularly in the Dairy populated area.

The department has now established a vaccination campaign to vaccinate and immunise all the healthy cattle in villages & Gaushalas of U.T. Chandigarh as per the guidelines of the Government of India, which is free of cost.

The department has procured 10,000 doses of vaccine for the prevention of this disease.

The vaccination will be carried out via veterinary institutions consisting of four Veterinary Hospitals and nine Veterinary Sub Centres functioning in various villages of Chandigarh. 13 teams consisting of Veterinary staff shall undertake vaccination of healthy cattle from door to door under the supervision of the Veterinary officer of the area.

The Department has already sent 17 blood samples to the Regional Disease Diagnostic Centre (RDDL) and NIHSADL Bhopal for confirmation of the disease.
