Mylab Discovery Solutions, a biotech company has announced the opening of an advanced Innovation Centre for diagnostics in Pune on 28th July.

The centre was inaugurated by Dr. Cyrus S. Poonawalla, Chairman and Managing Director of the Serum Institute of India.

According to Mylab, $3 Mn has been reportedly invested in the centre, which is the only one in the country to develop and commercialise diagnostic innovations in a variety of fields, including molecular, serology, immunology, and automation, robotics, AI-based diagnostic solutions, devices, and biosensors.

Spread over 42,000 square feet at Aundh, the centre will be furnished with cutting-edge machinery that will allow research scientists and engineers to realise their ideas. Over 450 people will work at the centre, including 70% of research scientists.

Speaking at the inauguration of Mylab Global Innovation Centre, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla remarked, “Quality and advanced diagnostics are of paramount importance today as it plays a pivotal role across the entire healthcare continuum. I am confident that Mylab Global Innovation Centre will contribute significantly to the development of high-quality diagnostics for more efficient and accurate diagnoses and deliver a better treatment outcome for patients across the world.”

Commenting on the matter, CEO of Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla, said, “Mylab has been at the forefront of research and innovation in diagnostics and is committed to advancing healthcare. The Centre will pave the way for the development of new generation diagnostics that will address clinical unmet needs and increase patient access to quality diagnostics in the world.”

He further added that research and development is an integral part of Mylab and serves as the company’s innovation engine. He noted that the company has submitted numerous patents and trademarks for its innovations.

“Dr. Cyrus and Adar Poonawalla will guide the Mylab team in developing diagnostics for international markets as per their needs and specifications” he continued.

Hasmukh Rawal also remarked that they have already invested $2 Mn in the centre. “We will invest another $1 million soon,” Rawal added.

Recently, Mylab Discovery Solutions launched an at-home pregnancy test kit ‘PregaScreen’ which allows women to detect their pregnancy status themselves.

With the launch of the test kit, the company marks its foray into the female healthcare segment. This at-home rapid test kit provides results within just a few minutes with 99.99% accuracy and can be purchased over-the-counter from local pharmacies across India, priced at INR 55.

Currently, the company plans to launch a range of products in this category in the coming months.
