The central government has stated its preparedness to tackle the surge in covid cases of approximately 5 lakh in an official statement. It was shard that at present there are 8.3 lakh beds available with 9.78 lakh additional isolation beds for patients affected with Covid-19.

Dr V K Paul Niti Aayog member (health) shared that around 4.8 lakh beds are oxygen supported and 1.3 lakh ICU beds are also available. However, the government cautioned and stated that the preparedness maintained that the preparedness is only a precautionary measure to ensure treatment is available to people in case of resurgence. “It does not mean we are saying that it (resurgence in terms of number of cases) will happen or should happen or can happen,” Dr Paul added.
