India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation today has announced that the union government would be taking back control of the Covid-19 vaccination from the states. The government, he said, will provide free vaccines to all within the next two weeks.
“The Centre is taking back total control of vaccination now, will be implemented in next two weeks. It will give free vaccines to states for all above 18. From 21 June, the Union Government will provide free vaccines to states,” Prime Minster Modi said in his address to the nation.
He added that those who want to pay for the vaccines can visit the private hospitals, who can still buy 25% of the Covid-19 vaccine shots directly from manufacturers. “75% of vaccination will be free and under the Centre, 25% will be paid and by private hospitals.”
