New Covid-19 cases in India crossed the 50,000-mark in a single day for the first time ever on Sunday, even as the total caseload went past 14 lakh. As per the data, on Sunday, there were 50,362 cases reported across the country which pushed the total tally of positive covid-19 cases to 14,34,851.

Recoveries crossed the 900,000-mark with 31,572 new recoveries taking the number to 916,505 (63.9% of those infected). A total of 32,811 people have died from Covid-19, with 716 new fatalities being recorded on Sunday.


 As per the official data, for the first time a record number of more than 4,40,000 tests have been conducted in a single day. Also, the number of tests for detection of the COVID-19 has crossed the 16 million mark in the country. “With 4,42,263 samples being tested in the last 24 hours, the number of Test Per Million (TPM) has further increased to 11,805 and cumulative testing to 1,62,91,331,” the health ministry said.

“For the first time, the government labs have set a new record of testing 3,62,153 samples. The private labs have also scaled a new high of 79,878 samples tested in a single day,” it said in the statement. Maharashtra continues to be worst affected state followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi.


In the national capital, the total daily intake of cases has witnessed a slight dip in recent weeks. On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 9,431 new cases, the highest in the country, followed by Andhra Pradesh’s 7,627 and Tamil Nadu’s 6,986 cases. Delhi reported 1,075 new infections on Sunday, taking the Capital’s tally to 130,606.
