Covid-19 Highest spike

Covid-19 cases continue to rise despite measures being undertaken by authorities across the country. New hotspots are emerging even if some region like Delhi has seen decline of positive cases in recent days.

On Sunday, India recorded more than 40,000 cases taking the total tally of positive cases past1.1 million. This is the first time the country has touched the mark of 40,000 cases in a single day.


As per the official figure, the country reported 40,118 new cases and 675 deaths on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 1,116,597, and deaths to 27,487.

Despite surging fresh coronavirus cases, India’s COVID-19 case fatality rate is progressively falling and is currently at 2.49%, which is one of the lowest in the world, the Union Health Ministry said.

The total number of active cases is 390459, while a total of 700086 people have recovered. The number of recovered COVID-19 patients exceeds active cases in India by 309627.

While the spread of the virus, Sars-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, is beginning to show signs of plateauing in some urban epicentres of the contagion such as Delhi, other regions such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Bihar have started showing spikes in daily new cases, a HT report said.

Apparently, one of the reasons in spiking of cases in new hotspots is more number of tests. As per ICMR, a total of 1.40 crore samples have been tested for coronavirus till date.

Last week, two Indian companies– Bharat Biotech and Zydus Cadila, started human clinical trial for the vaccine. Globally many companies are in the race to develop vaccine to combat the pandemic.
