Despite the Coronavirus continues wreaking havoc leading to a spike in total number of cases, there is a good news that total number of recovered people have crossed the one lakh-mark. As per the official report, a total of 1,00,303 have defeated the virus till Wednesday– 48.31% of total cases so far.

With 8,909 fresh cases and 217 deaths recorded by the health ministry on Wednesday, the total number of cases in India have mounted to 2,07,615, the Health Ministry said. The death toll has climbed to 5,815.

“We are expecting cases to increase as restrictions are gradually being lifted. While containment exercise will continue, it is a relief that recovery rate is improving fast and deaths are limited. Our focus is to keep death rate as low as possible. Increasing number of recoveries shows that our strategy of early detection and clinical management is right,” a health ministry official was quoted as saying by ET report.

As per the ministry, Maharashtra leads the worst affected States, followed by Tamil Nadu, and Delhi. As many as 72,300 cases have been reported in Maharashtra, 24,586 cases in Tamil Nadu and 22,132 in Delhi. Of the 5,815 deaths across the country, Maharashtra accounted for the highest number at 2,465, followed by Gujarat and Delhi, the report said.

Till Wednesday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) had tested 41.03 lakh samples for Covid-19, while 1.37 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
