Uttarakhand Cabinet

The entire Uttarakhand Cabinet including Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat have been placed under home quarantine following a meeting last week with Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, who tested positive for coronavirus.

As per an official, Maharaj, his wife and 21 other people family members, staff and his followers staying in the same household were tested positive on Sunday.

On Friday, the Minister had attended a meeting of the state cabinet which led alarm bells ringing within Uttarakhand political circles and state Health Department recommended home quarantine for every minister who came in contact with Maharaj.

“The ministers and officials fall into the category of low risk contacts as they were not in close contact with Satpal Maharaj. They can function in a normal way and there is no need to quarantine them,” state Health Secretary Amit Negi was quoted as saying.

Maharaj, along with his five family members has been admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh, a report said.

A total of 749 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been come to light in Uttarakhand so far, an official figure stated. Out of the total cases, 102 patients have been successfully cured while five have succumbed to the deadly disease.
