Wockhardt Hospital

The Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai has become the latest hotspot for Coronavirus Pandemic as 26 nurses and three doctors tested positive for COVID-19. This came to light after they underwent a test, carried out in a span of one week. Following the development, the Hospital has been declared a containment zone by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The administration has barred the entry to and exit from the hospital until all the patients test negative twice consecutively, a civic official told The Times of India. All OPDs, emergency services have been closed.

A TOI report says that infection spread from a 70-year-old heart attack patient who was tested positive on March 27. Initially two nurses who were serving the patient contracted the infection. Infection soon spread to many other nurses. The two doctors are also thought to have caught the disease the same way.The Hospital staff have alleged that the infection spread rapidly as the management failed to quarantine the colleagues and roommates of the infected nurses. The workers’ union has also alleged that protective gears were not provided to the nurses despite them attending to suspected Covid-19 patients.
