Providing the much required boost to manufacturers of medical devices, Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), Indias first state-of-the-art medical devices manufacturing park, recently joined hands with GMDN Agency as a partner.
The move, which attracted attention of medical device fraternity across the world, is aimed at providing the much required boost to manufacturers of medical devices by promoting exports and facilitating global expansion.

GMDN, compiled by medical device experts from around the world, came into existence in 1991 to enable taxonomy on medical devices.

GMDN is a compilation of generic names to identify medical devices used in the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of disease or injury in humans.
AMTZ will collaborate with GMDN as a consulting organisation, bringing value-addition to the makers of medical devices in the 270-acre business park located in Visakhapatnam, which is dedicated to medical device manufacturing.
Taxonomy of medical devices assumes significance in view of the increasing importance of electronic data records for sharing and storing patient information.
The International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF), which was established in 2011 with an aim to harmonise medical device regulatory activities across the globe, recommends GMDN to regulators and is being used by over 70 national medical device regulators to support their activity.
