QUA_icon_400x400Qualcomm Life has acquired medical device integration and clinical data management solutions provider, Capsule Technologie.

Capsule will be operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Life.


The acquired business will expand Qualcomm Life’s connected health offerings, ranging from hospital to home and all points in between.

The deal will also allow to combine Qualcomm Life’s wireless expertise and ecosystem of connected medical devices outside of the hospital with Capsule’s knowledge of connecting medical devices, EMR’s and IT systems across the hospital enterprise.

Capsule’s medical device integration and clinical data management platform allows collection, EMR and health IT system integration and monitoring in one of the largest ecosystems of connected devices inside the hospital.


The firm’s smart networking is said to deliver timely clinical data to various in-hospital decision support systems, alarm and notification systems and asset management tools, allowing in reducing latency and transcription errors.

Qualcomm president Derek Aberle said: “The acquisition of Capsule expands the breadth of our healthcare platform, enabling us to provide connectivity solutions for the entire care continuum and create one of the world’s largest connected health ecosystems.”

Capsule CEO Gene Cattarina said: “As health care continues to move into the home and ambulatory settings and outside of traditional care areas such as the hospital, the convergence of medical device data from wherever the patient is located is critically important.”

In January, Qualcomm Life collaborated with Roche to enhance remote monitoring and management of chronic disease patients.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
