Syenergy Environics & India International Centre organized an interaction session on Cell Tower & Mobile Radiations with Dr. Dariusz Leszczynski, an expert in biological / health effects of mobile phone radiation since 1996. He was one of the 31 scientists who was part of the IARC / WHO committee which classified mobile radiations as possibly carcinogenic (Group 2B) to human beings in May 2011. The session deliberated upon the harmful effects of Electromagnetic Radiations from Mobile Transmission Towers & Mobile Phones on human health and the possibility of constant exposure to them causing Cancer, Brain Tumour, Hearing Loss etc.

Dr. Dariusz Leszczynski, Mr. Ajay Poddar, MD (Syenergy Environics), Mr. Pranav Poddar, Director (Syenergy Environics), Mr. Munshi, Citizen Activist (Mumbai) were present at the session to create awareness about the adverse affects of radiations.

There are various reports which get published presenting a completely different side of the story, which say that there is no conclusive evidence on any harm to health from these Radiations. This creates a lot of confusion in the minds of people as they don’t know what to believe. Much more clarity is required on this subject.

Dr. Dariusz Leszczynski said, There is enough evidence from many epidemiological studies that the use of Cell Phones for more than 10 years increases risk of Cancer and Brain Tumor by more than 50%.

Mr. Ajay Poddar, MD, Syenergy Environics said, The Telecom Industry has to be responsive to peoples concern about Health and should join citizens groups in research. Like the cigarette industry did 20 years back, they should not use terms like no conclusive evidence and no substantive proof. Solutions which have been developed to mitigate the ill-effects should be adopted and encouraged by the Industry to create a win-win situation for all.

Due to the mounting concern about the possibility of adverse health effects resulting from exposure to wireless communication devices like cell phones and towers in the World, a Working Group of 31 scientists and experts from 14 countries was formed in 2011 and they met to assess the potential health hazards from exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields. In May 2011, based on the data and studies presented by these scientists, The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization (WHO) classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, and associated with wireless phone use.

There are enough int. studies to prove that the electromagnetic radiations from Mobile Towers & Cell Phones are harmful for Human health, the Govt. of India should take cognizance of these studies and involve medical experts, citizens of the country and the Telecom Industry to take precautionary steps and implement solutions which eliminate the risk of any harmful effect on human health due to these radiations.
