Saket City Hospital (SCH), a multi-super speciality hospital led by Spice Global, marked the observance of Mental Health Week followed by a celebration of the World Mental Health Day on October 10. A seminar organised by the Hospitals Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences laid emphasis on mental disorders manifesting differently in children than adults, stigma and myths associated with mental disease and the significant role of the parent/guardian and teachers in the prevention and cure of mental diseases in children. Use of new-age therapies in treating such disorders was also discussed.
The programme envisioned by Dr. Madhusudan Singh Solanki entailed providing useful tips and training to teachers and parents to identify at risk children and problem behavior, promotion of positive living and healthy coping skills to prevent mental ill health, early intervention, salience to mental health in health services and usage of community participation as a resource against the disorders. It also endured to offer a detailed examination of the patient with an objective to identify early signs and provided an opportunity for a one-on-one interaction for parents as well as children, with the psychiatrists and psychologist of SCH.
Ecstatic presenting the event Dr. Madhusudan Singh Solanki, consultant, psychiatrist, Saket City Hospital added “Half the battle is won if we all come together and fight the cause with due diligence and conviction. Let us pledge to fight mental disease in totality – fight the stigma, identify and address our children’s needs and spread awareness for others to follow. Let us do our bit to make India and by extension, the world a mental disease-free place.”
