Ahmedabad-based Cadila Pharmaceuticals on Saturday said it is expecting a revenue of INR 100 crore from the sale of its patented combination drug, Policap, which it expects to launch by the middle of next month.
The company has sought permission from the Drug Controller General of India to launch the drug here and is hopeful that it may get the same by mid-June. Policap is a combination of three common anti-hypertensive drugs along with aspirin and statin (cholesterol lowering drug) and can reduce risk of heart attacks by half.
“Policap has the potential of becoming a blockbuster drug and revenue earnings from it should be more than Rs 100 crore per annum,” Cadila Pharmaceuticals Chairman Indravadan Modi.
The drug has been tested on over 200 patients in 50 centres across the country, Modi said, adding, studies reveal that the risk of heart attack can be decreased by 50 per cent with the use of this drug. The company is soon going to apply for regulatory approvals to introduce the drug in the US and other developed markets. Cadila is also looking at global tie-ups with multinationals to launch the drug in overseas markets.
