India’s largest MedTech innovation cluster, the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), has expanded its incubation ecosystem with the operationalisation of the World Trade Centre (WTC) Tower at Visakhapatnam. The new facility, spread across one lakh sq. ft., offers advanced laboratories, co-working spaces, and activity zones to accelerate the growth of medical technology startups.

The expansion, anchored by the AIC-AMTZ Medivalley Incubation Centre, is set to double its current incubation strength from 150 startups to 300 by FY 2026. The WTC Tower integrates rapid prototyping and testing labs, regulatory support systems, and R&D infrastructure—creating an end-to-end innovation pipeline for MedTech entrepreneurs.

“Increasing our incubation footprint is not just about adding space; it’s about building capacity for India’s next generation of MedTech leaders. With this expansion, every idea—whether surgical needles, robotics, or AI-driven wearables—can find the right ecosystem to evolve into a global product,” said Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Executive Chairman of AIC-AMTZ Medivalley and Founder, CEO & MD of AMTZ.

Medivalley has already incubated over 150 startups, facilitated 40+ research outcomes, and enabled patents and technology transfers over the past five years. Backed by institutional partnerships with DBT-BIRAC, DPIIT, NITI Aayog, ICMR, and the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the incubator has mobilised more than ₹60 crore in grants, including a recent ₹7 crore allocation from the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Dilip Kumar Chekuri, CEO of Medivalley—recognised internationally with the AAMI John D. Hughes Iconoclast Award—has been instrumental in steering the incubation centre’s growth trajectory. Under his leadership, Medivalley has signed collaborations with over 150 corporates and 50 academic institutions and has received recognitions such as NITI Aayog’s Best MedTech Incubator in India and CII’s MedTech Quality Champion (Platinum).

The Medivalley ecosystem leverages its strategic location within the 270-acre AMTZ campus, providing access to NABL-accredited PCT labs, CDSCO registration, BIS recognition, and ISO/IEC 17025 certified testing and calibration services. Collaborations with IBSC (training), Biovalley (life sciences knowledge), IIM Vizag, IIT Tirupati, and the upcoming MedTech University further strengthen the support system for innovators.

Entrepreneurs echo the impact. “At Medivalley, we didn’t just find space—we found a complete ecosystem with mentors, prototyping facilities, and investors under one roof,” said Dr. Nidun Jacob, Founder of Griva Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. Another startup founder, Arun Kumar of Santulit Innovators Pvt. Ltd., highlighted how access to AMTZ’s certification facilities accelerated their path from concept to commercialisation.

With its expanded footprint, Medivalley is positioning itself as a global launchpad for Indian MedTech startups, directly supporting the Make-in-India vision while creating pathways for international market access through its WTC platform and partnerships with the WHO, World Health Innovation Forum, TiE, and IASP.
