
As many as 22 new AIIMS would be established in different parts of country with support from the State Governments, the Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare) Ashwini Kumar Choubey said recently.
While giving a written reply in Rajya Sabha, he said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was implementing a centrally sponsored Scheme namely upgradation of existing State Government / Central Government Medical colleges to increase PG seats.

From Jammu Kashmir to Gujarat, AIIMS would be set-up in every parts of the country in phased manner.

As per the plan, cost would be shared both by Centre and State with former bearing major part of it.

“The funding pattern is 90:10 by Central and State Governments respectively for North Eastern States and Special category States and 60:40 for other States with the upper ceiling cost pegged at Rs.1.20 crore per seat,” an official communiqué released by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Stated.
In first phase six news AIIMS out of total 22 at Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhubaneswar (Orissa), Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and Rishikesh (Uttaranchal) are functional.
In second phase AIIMS would be set-up in Uttar Pradesh’s Rai Bareilly.
Two new AIIMS in Jammu Kashmir’s Pulwama, Awantipora, and Samba districts would be established in phased-five and the masterplan is being worked out for the same.
4058 new PG seats to be added
The Minister also informed the upper house that 72 Government medical colleges in 21 States/UTs have been approved for increasing 4058 new PG seats under the Phase-I of the scheme.

He also said that five Government medical colleges have been approved in three States for increasing 98 new PG seats under the Phase-II of the scheme till date.
“Under section 10A of the IMC Act, 1956 applications were received for starting / increasing of PG courses / seats for the academic session 2019-20 and a total of 2153 new PG seats have been permitted,” an official note said.
