Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram

In a move aimed at strengthening student healthcare services, Maharashtra’s School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse has proposed the development of a mobile application to ensure comprehensive health check-ups for students under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), also known as the National Child Health Programme. The proposed initiative is expected to streamline medical assessments and enable timely intervention for student health issues.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting attended by Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, along with other senior officials, to discuss strategies for the effective implementation of RBSK. The proposed mobile app is designed to keep a structured record of student health data, track check-up schedules, and facilitate follow-up treatments to ensure no child is left out of the programme.

Tech-Driven Healthcare for Students

In addition to the mobile app, Bhuse has emphasized the need for a coordinated effort between the School Education and Public Health Departments to design a year-long health check-up calendar. This initiative aims to create a systematic approach for conducting medical assessments across schools, ensuring every student receives adequate healthcare support.

Bhuse also stressed the importance of advanced communication with parents and students, ensuring their attendance on scheduled check-up days. He noted that beyond routine examinations, students should have access to medical attention whenever required, with follow-up treatments facilitated through RBSK.

To enhance the efficiency of the proposed app, Bhuse has directed officials to study health check-up applications developed in Nashik and Daman. By incorporating best practices from these models, Maharashtra aims to implement an effective state-wide digital healthcare solution for students.

Ensuring Health and Safety Beyond Check-Ups

A senior Education Department official reiterated the government’s commitment to student well-being, stating: “Ensuring the health and well-being of students is a top priority. The proposed app and structured health check-up calendar will provide a systematic approach to medical care, allowing timely intervention and better health outcomes for all students.”

Beyond health assessments, Bhuse also called for a district-wise review of the Student Accident Relief Grant Scheme, ensuring swift resolution of pending cases. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness among teachers so that students and parents can independently access support in case of an accident.

Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar also reinforced the significance of student health, directing the Health Department to guarantee comprehensive screening of all students under RBSK.

Enhancing Healthcare Access in Rural Areas

This initiative highlights the Maharashtra government’s commitment to leveraging technology for improving healthcare accessibility, especially in rural and underserved areas. By implementing digital solutions and structured planning, the state aims to create a more inclusive and efficient student healthcare ecosystem.

The proposed mobile application and coordinated health check-up calendar signify a progressive step towards integrating healthcare with technology, ensuring that every student in Maharashtra has access to timely medical care and preventive health measures.
