Robotic Cardiac Surgeries

SS Innovations has taken a significant step in advancing healthcare technology by successfully performing robotic cardiac telesurgeries using its indigenously developed SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System. The groundbreaking procedures connected surgeons at SS Innovations’ headquarters in Gurugram with Manipal Hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan, over a distance of 286 kilometers. These surgeries highlight the transformative potential of telemedicine and robotic technology in enhancing surgical precision and accessibility across geographies.

The two robotic telesurgeries, a Telerobotic-assisted Internal Mammary Artery Harvesting procedure and a Robotic Beating Heart Totally Endoscopic Coronary Artery Bypass (TECAB), demonstrated exceptional precision and efficiency. The Internal Mammary Artery Harvesting procedure was completed in just 58 minutes with latency as low as 35-40 milliseconds, ensuring seamless communication between the surgical teams at both locations. Similarly, the TECAB procedure, one of the most complex cardiac surgeries, showcased the reliability and accuracy of the system, operating with a latency of only 40 milliseconds.

The SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System, approved by India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) for telesurgery and tele-proctoring, represents a significant leap in surgical innovation. By enabling remote surgical interventions, the system addresses critical challenges in healthcare delivery, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

Bridging Geographical Gaps in Healthcare

The successful deployment of the SSI Mantra system underscores its capability to bridge geographical barriers, bringing cutting-edge surgical expertise to locations with limited access to specialized care. With its low-latency performance and high precision, the system ensures timely interventions, reducing the need for patients to travel to urban centers for advanced treatments.

Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations, emphasized the impact of telesurgery on healthcare accessibility:
“By enabling telesurgery, we can bridge gaps in access to medical expertise and deliver the highest standard of care, regardless of geographical barriers. For a country like India, with its vast rural population and significant healthcare disparities, this innovation is transformative.”

Dr. Lalit Malik, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Manipal Hospital, Jaipur, added:
“The remote robotic-assisted CABG on an elderly patient from Jaipur exemplifies how technology is bridging geographical gaps to provide accurate and timely medical interventions.”

Transforming Healthcare Delivery

The approval of telesurgery capabilities for the SSI Mantra system reflects the growing integration of advanced technologies in healthcare. By facilitating remote surgeries and collaborative medical education through tele-proctoring, the system opens avenues for global expertise to contribute to patient care in real-time.

Dr. Fredric Moll, Vice-Chairman of SS Innovations and a pioneer in surgical robotics, remarked:
“SS Innovations has seized the opportunity to develop the next generation of surgical robotic systems and push the envelope of what was dreamed more than 20 years ago. With this achievement, we have now entered a new paradigm shift towards surgery and how we will soon approach it.”

Advancing Surgical Precision and Accessibility

The SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System highlights the potential of robotics to democratize healthcare by making advanced surgical interventions accessible and affordable. Its telemedical capabilities ensure that expert care reaches patients in even the most remote corners of the globe, addressing critical healthcare disparities and improving outcomes.

As SS Innovations continues to refine and expand its technological solutions, the focus remains on enhancing the precision, safety, and accessibility of surgical care. The success of these telesurgeries is not only a testament to the capabilities of the SSI Mantra system but also a glimpse into the future of healthcare, where technology-driven solutions play a pivotal role in transforming patient care.

This milestone reinforces the promise of robotics and telemedicine in creating a more connected and equitable healthcare system, setting the stage for further advancements in the global healthcare landscape.
