Manipal Hospitals

In a groundbreaking step towards enhancing cardiac care in India, Manipal Hospitals has introduced the cutting-edge Abbott Aveir Leadless Pacemaker into its cardiac procedures. This innovative wireless pacemaker, powered by advanced nanotechnology, is designed to revolutionize patient care with unparalleled longevity, compatibility, and remote monitoring capabilities.

A Leap Forward in Cardiac Technology

The Aveir Leadless Pacemaker stands out as a highly sophisticated injectable device that utilizes nanotechnology to remain securely anchored in the heart. With a remarkable estimated lifespan of up to 25 years, the pacemaker eliminates the need for frequent replacements, a significant improvement over traditional devices.

The device’s non-magnetic design ensures compatibility with MRI machines, airport scanners, and high-voltage environments, allowing patients to lead normal lives without fear of interference. Additionally, the pacemaker incorporates Bluetooth-enabled technology, enabling healthcare providers to monitor and adjust the device remotely, ensuring optimal performance and patient safety.

Successful Implementation at Manipal Hospitals

The first successful implantation of the Aveir Leadless Pacemaker was performed at Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, on a 65-year-old woman. The procedure marked a significant milestone in cardiac care, providing the patient with a safer, more efficient treatment option.

Following this success, the pacemaker was implanted in two additional patients at Medica Superspecialty Hospital and Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur, highlighting the growing adoption of this advanced technology across leading healthcare institutions.

The launch event was graced by renowned cardiologists from Manipal Hospitals, including Dr. P.K. Hazra, Interventional Cardiologist, Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria; Dr. Sumanta Chatterjee, Consultant Cardiologist, Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria; Dr. Soumya Kanti Dutta, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria; and Dr. Dilip Kumar, Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab & Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist, Medica Superspecialty Hospital (an entity of Manipal Hospitals). Mr. Rajesh Pareekh, Unit Head at Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, also attended the event.

Dr. P.K. Hazra highlighted, “The Aveir Leadless pacemaker can be upgraded from a single to a dual-chamber configuration, efficiently managing the right atrium and ventricle. It eliminates invasive surgery, external wires, and reduces risks of infections while enabling continuous monitoring through Bluetooth technology.”

Dr. Dilip Kumar emphasized, “Previous wireless pacemakers lacked the capability to pace both chambers. This innovative device addresses such limitations, reducing risks associated with lead-related complications, infections, and hematoma formation.”

Dr. Soumya Kanti Dutta added, “By eliminating the need for external wires and surgical pockets, the device minimizes infection risks, making it ideal for patients with compromised immunity, those on dialysis, blood thinners, or with skin-related issues. Its minimally invasive nature is especially beneficial for patients concerned about scarring.”

Transforming Cardiac Care in India

Manipal Hospitals’ adoption of the Aveir Leadless Pacemaker underscores its commitment to staying at the forefront of medical innovation. This initiative aligns with the hospital’s vision to provide world-class healthcare solutions to patients in India, leveraging advanced technology to deliver safer and more effective treatments.

As cardiac disorders continue to be a leading health concern globally, innovations like the Aveir Leadless Pacemaker are paving the way for transformative changes in how these conditions are managed. By introducing this state-of-the-art technology, Manipal Hospitals reaffirms its position as a leader in modern healthcare, ensuring that Indian patients have access to the best medical advancements available.
