CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, Udupi, has been internationally recognized by the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network for its commitment to sustainable healthcare practices. The hospital was honored with a distinguished award at the International Scientific Conference on Climate Change and Health and the 6th Asia-Pacific Green Healthcare System Conference, which took place in Hai Phong, Vietnam, from October 30 to November 1.

Dr. Sushil Jathanna, Director of Lombard Hospital, accepted the award on behalf of the hospital at the event, which gathered global healthcare leaders and climate advocates. Organized by Health Care Without Harm Southeast Asia in collaboration with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the Vietnam Health Environment Management Agency, the conference emphasized the role of healthcare in advancing sustainable practices across Asia. Key sponsors and partners included the Asian Development Bank (ADB), FHI360, UNICEF, and UNDP.

“This recognition is a proud moment for Lombard Hospital and reaffirms our commitment to sustainable healthcare in coastal Karnataka,” said Dr. Sushil Jathanna. “It inspires us to continue making positive environmental impacts through our ongoing initiatives.”

Founded by Dr. Eva Lombard, a Swiss missionary, on June 15, 1923, Lombard Hospital is a landmark institution in coastal Karnataka. Celebrating its 101st anniversary in 2024, the hospital recently introduced the ‘INSPIRE’ project, which targets environmental sustainability through renewable energy solutions, water conservation, waste reduction, improved air quality, and biodiversity preservation.
