ABHA Scan

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) celebrated a significant achievement as its ABHA-based Scan and Share service issued over 1 crore tokens for OPD registrations. Launched in October 2022, this paperless initiative enables patients to instantly register at Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) by scanning a QR code. The system, operational in over 2,600 healthcare facilities spanning 419 districts in 33 Indian States and Union Territories, primarily aims to streamline the registration process.

States and Union Territories have quickly adopted this efficient approach, notably easing the crowd at patient registration points. As per the ABDM Public Dashboard, AIIMS in Delhi, Bhopal, and Raipur have reported the highest usage. Among the top fifteen hospitals utilising this system, nine are located in Uttar Pradesh, followed closely by Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi.

Emphasising the importance of digital integration in healthcare, the CEO of NHA remarked, “The ABDM’s primary goal is to refine and enhance the healthcare experience. Through the Scan and Share service, approximately 1,00,000 patients daily are spared the long waits typically associated with hospital queues.” He further hinted at the service’s potential expansion to include pharmacy counters and diagnostic laboratories. This digital registration will not only offer convenience but also provide patients access to their digital medical records, including prescriptions and diagnostic results.
