The launch of a cutting-edge 4th generation robot for joint reconstruction, a first of its kind, was announced by Prashanth Hospitals, one of Chennai’s top multispecialty hospital chains, today. This precision-based technology system is used to execute joint reconstruction procedures on patients with end-stage rheumatoid arthritis and other knee joint-related issues. It includes 3D visualisation and user-friendly control systems. The robotic device was launched by Padmashri Dr. Mayilvahanan Natarajan, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon and Former Vice-Chancellor – Dr. MGR Medical University in the presence of Dr. C Geetha Haripriya, Chairperson – Prashanth Group of Hospitals, Dr. Gopalasamy G, Managing Director – Prashanth Group of Hospitals and Dr. Prashanth Krishna, Director – Prashanth Hospitals.

The hospital also launched its Centre of Excellence for Robotic Joint Reconstruction at an event today in an effort to further expand its orthopaedics services. Dr. Arumugam, a senior orthopaedic surgeon and clinical lead, will lead the exclusive center’s staff of over 20 orthopaedic experts, senior consultants, nurses, and physiotherapists.

The 4th Generation Robot for Joint Reconstruction is a convenient and small joint replacement tool that uses infrared cameras and optical trackers to 3D map the joint and gather accurate anatomical data from patients, resulting in an appropriate implant for every treatment. With a 30% increase in efficiency and 30% better accuracy, the customised approach will enable surgeons to make decisions instantly and remove the problematic bone sections. In compared to the conventional approach, the surgery will be less painful and result in less blood loss. The hospital’s post-operative care unit, which specialises in this area, will provide superior care for earlier mobility, hastening the recovery rate.
