World Pneumonia Day

World Pneumonia Day is observed on 12th of November to promote awareness about the disease and its prevention. It is the world’s most common infectious disease and is a form of severe respiratory infection affecting the lungs. According to WHO, children under the age of five years and adults above the age of 65 years are the most vulnerable towards it. The theme for World Pneumonia Day 2021 is Stop Pneumonia / Every Breath Counts.

While vaccination helps in prevention of Pneumonia, one can also maintain immunity with proper protein enriched diet and regular physical activity. There has also been a significant rise in the Covid pneumonia cases, adding significantly to the number of fatalities. India accounts for 23 per cent of global pneumonia cases.
