In his address to the nation post crossing the mark of administering 1 billion vaccine doses, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the country. He stated that the vaccine programme in India was ‘science-borne, science-driven and science-based’.
He stated that sustained vaccination, reforms, and a strong push to local manufacturing and infrastructure development have been key elements of India’s economic recovery strategy. He also focused on the acceptance of locally made covid-19 vaccines in protecting lives.

Prime Minister while raising concerns about people lowering their guards amid festive season said, “The vaccine achievement gives reason for confidence. Today we can say that the country knows how to achieve great targets. But we need to be cautious. We should not lower the guard. However strong the armour may be, soldiers do not cast away their weapons so long as the war is on.”
Modi mentioned that he wishes for even a small item made in India to get ample support. “This will work only with support from everyone. This has to be a people’s movement like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. I am confident that with everyone’s help, we will be able to do this. If made in India vaccine can protect me, then things made in my country can make my Diwali grand.” He reiterated that covid can be defeated. He urged people who are yet to be vaccinated to get it done on priority and also emphasized on wearing masks while moving around in public places.
