With 90,802 Covid-19 cases reported in past 24 hours, India’s total tally has crossed 42 lakh figure, becoming second worst-hit country in the world after the United States.
India surpassed Brazil with 42,04,614 cases and is now behind the USA which has recorded 6.29 million covid-19 cases. Brazil has registered 4.14 million case.

This is the second consecutive day that the country registered over 90,000 new infections in 24 hours. As per the official figure released from the Union Health Ministry, about 8.82 lakh cases in the country are active (20.9 per cent of the total cases) and the recovery rate stands at 77 per cent. India’s covid-19 death toll breached the 71,000 mark as 1016 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, as per the data.
The silver lining is that about 32.5 lakh Covid patients have recovered so far; over 69,000 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are among the worst-hit states. Even if the cases are on the rise, metro services have resumed. Yellow line of Delhi Metro resumed operation from Monday nearly after 160 days.
Though positive cases have been on the rise, mortality is lesser in India than worst affected countries like US and Brazil. The United States has recorded the highest number of deaths followed by Brazil India, Mexico and Britain.
