
The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has increased 5,200 MBBS seats under Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation quota for the academic session 2019-20, Minister of State Ashwini Kumar Choubey said recently in the Parliament.
These seats have been increased in State Government aided Society run Colleges, Municipal Corporation’s Colleges and Colleges set up on Private Public Mode (PPP mode), the Minister said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

Recently the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan said there has been an increase of 24,698 seats for Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in medical colleges in more than two years.

Providing clear cut data of seats, he informed Lok Sabha that there has been increase of 15,815 UG seats and 2,153 PG seats during the 2017-18 to 2019-20 period.
According to the data provided by the minister in the lower house of the parliament on July 12, 2019, in the academic session of 2019-20, 10,565 undergraduate and 2,153 postgraduate seats were increased. He also said that there are about 75000 Medical seats for students who qualify the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).
