What are the hardware/system requirements for this software to work? What are the various applications that it is compatible with?

It supports MS office suite and the medical edition works on most windows based application including electronic medical records (EMR), electronic health records (EHR), and picture archiving and communication system (PACS).

What are the software’s major advantages, especially in the healthcare domain?

Nuance’s speech recognition software is one of the most accurate speech recognition softwares for PC applications. It enables healthcare professionals to complete clinical notes instantly and at a fraction of the cost of manual transcription. Its extremely fast and easy to use and is amazingly accurate—up to 30 percent more accurate than the prior release. Moreover, it can be used within Windows-based EMR solution or any Microsoft Office application and does not require any complicated HL7 interface. The software is packaged with medical speciality vocabularies covering 80 sub-specialities and allows the user to create other custom vocabularies to maximise recognition accuracy.

Key features of the software include:

  • Creating and editing clinical reports
  • Sending email, instant messages and surfing the web, all by voice
  • Dragon voice shortcuts to perform tasks faster than ever
  • Dictating into a handheld recorder for later transcription
    Fully network compatible
  • Combining commands to perform complex tasks on the PC
  • Third party correction features
  • EMR support
  • Faster turn-around of reports, cuts dependency, enhances productivity and saves cost.

How do you see the market in India? Being a cost-sensitive market, do you think this software has enough potential to grow here?

As the healthcare industry is evolving in India, there is a lack of support staff including efficient stenographers or administrative staff. In such a scenario, there is tremendous scope for growth as it helps eliminate the high cost and long turnaround times associated with manual transcription of patient notes. As the demand for service grows, efficient and smart technologies will only make the organisation more productive and efficient, resulting in greater returns.
