In a significant event commemorating Dhanvantari Jayanti and the 9th Ayurveda Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several healthcare initiatives valued at over ₹12,850 crore at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi. These initiatives are poised to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the nation, reflecting the Prime Minister’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to all citizens.
Among these projects, seven are associated with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, aimed at benefiting a large segment of workers and their families. The Prime Minister virtually inaugurated an ESIC hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and laid the groundwork for six additional ESI hospitals throughout the country. Together, these projects, amounting to ₹1,641 crore, are expected to improve healthcare access for approximately 55 lakh ESI beneficiaries and their families.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the remarkable advancements in India’s healthcare sector over the past decade, highlighting the establishment of a record number of AIIMS and medical colleges. He noted that hospitals were inaugurated in several states, including Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, and mentioned the upcoming hospitals in Narsapur and Bommasandra in Karnataka, Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh, Achitapuram in Andhra Pradesh, and Faridabad in Haryana. He also mentioned the commencement of work on a new ESIC Hospital in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, praised Prime Minister Modi’s vision of integrating healthcare into India’s development strategy. He stated, “The Prime Minister has linked health with development, creating a ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya’ health model that ensures healthcare is accessible, affordable, and available to every citizen.” Dr Mandaviya highlighted the significant growth of ESIC services over the last decade, noting that the ESIC network has expanded from 393 districts in 2014 to 674 districts in 2024. He reported that the number of families benefiting from health security has nearly doubled from 2 crore before 2014 to almost 4 crore today.
