Kartikeya Mishra, Director of Health & Family Welfare, A.P., Vijayawada, has been given full additional charge of Managing Director and CEO for Andhra Pradesh Med. Tech. Zone(AMTZ), Visakhapatnam with immediate effect, an official communiqué from the Government of Andhra Pradesh said.

The 2009-Andhra cadre IAS officer will be replacing Dr Jitender Sharma.

The State Government has also appointed Dr.K.S.Jawahar Reddy, IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department, as Chairperson of AMTZ.

An official order said the Government of Andhra Pradesh had no option but to remove Sharma in the wake of cropping up of a series of complaints on certain irregularities in procurement of civil works and equipment in setting up of Med. Tech. Zone.

“A vigilance enquiry has been ordered into the complaints on irregularities.  It is informed by the DG, Vigilance that required documents and files pertaining to tenders are not being made available to Vigilance officials by the incumbent MD & CEO, Med. Tech. Zone.  Similar thing happened when Senior Officials of Medical & Health Department called for the details with regard to procurement,” order said.

“Efforts made by Officials of Health department to reach out MD and his office and officials of Med. Tech. Zone through mails and phone calls were unsuccessful.  Hence, Government is left with no option but to replace Dr Jitender Sharma from the post of MD and CEO of AP Med. Tech. Zone to facilitate finding truth in alleged irregularities in the procurement done by AP Med Tech Zone,” it further stated.

As per the order, Sharma has been directed to handover charge to the new MD and CEO and report before the Principal Secretary to Government and Chairman of AP Med. Tech. Zone.

AMTZ

The Government of Andhra Pradesh established AMTZ in order to  promote medical device manufacturing in India.  The 270 acres of land dedicated for the project provides capital intensive scientific facilities required by most medical device manufacturers and 200+ modern state of the art independent manufacturing units. The objective behind this ‘One-Stop- Solution’ is not only to reduce the cost of manufacturing up to 40% or to just simplify the end-to- end operations but also to reduce the import dependency, which is presently around 75%.
