Pune-headquartered Krsnaa Diagnostics has entered into a collaboration with Paris-based medical imaging AI company AZmed to assess how artificial intelligence can take some of the load off its high-volume radiology reporting. The listed diagnostics chain will evaluate AZtrauma, a module of AZmed’s Rayvolve AI suite, for detecting and triaging fractures, joint effusions and dislocations on X-rays.

The company disclosed the tie-up to the stock exchanges on 22 October, describing it as part of a broader strategy to use AI to strengthen radiology operations, improve reporting efficiency and build capacity for future growth.
Testing AI where the volumes are
X-ray reporting is where the scale problem is most visible for Krsnaa. The company reports roughly 5 million X-rays every year, which it says is one of the largest such operations in India. Fracture detection on plain radiographs is high-volume, time-sensitive work, and an AI layer that flags likely findings and pushes urgent cases up the queue could let radiologists clear more studies without compromising on review.

Krsnaa has framed the exercise as an evaluation rather than a rollout. Any wider deployment, it said, will depend on the outcome of the assessment, regulatory approvals, contractual and data-related requirements, and how well the technology performs inside existing workflows.
A PPP-heavy diagnostics network
Krsnaa delivers imaging, pathology and teleradiology services across 19 states and union territories, through more than 190 CT and MRI centres, over 2,000 X-ray centres, 212 pathology laboratories and upwards of 4,700 patient collection centres. Much of this runs on public-private partnership (PPP) contracts with state governments, with the company pricing services at more than 70% below prevailing market rates and serving large numbers of patients in tier II and tier III cities.
Its teleradiology hub in Pune, which the company says is the first American College of Radiology (ACR)-recognised hub of its kind outside the United States, provides round-the-clock reporting to government hospitals, medical colleges and community health centres. That model makes radiologist productivity a direct lever on both service levels and margins.
What the company leaders said
Yash Mutha, Managing Director, Krsnaa Diagnostics, said healthcare AI presents a significant opportunity to transform diagnostic services, and that bringing such tools into high-volume radiology operations is aimed at unlocking operating leverage, raising productivity and expanding reporting capacity, so that the company can serve more patients at affordable prices.
Dr Madhuri Ghate, Vice President – Radiology, Krsnaa Diagnostics, said the company’s scale gives it the operational experience to judge how AI-assisted radiology can make workflows more efficient, while keeping radiologists at the centre of clinical decision-making.
Julien Vidal, CEO of AZmed, called India a significant opportunity for AI-enabled radiology and said Krsnaa’s reach and reporting capabilities make it a valuable partner for bringing AZmed’s tools into high-volume diagnostic workflows.
About AZmed
Founded in Paris in 2018, AZmed builds AI software for medical imaging. Its Rayvolve solution was the first AI software to receive CE marking for fracture detection on X-rays, in 2019, and the company has since secured multiple 510(k) clearances from the US Food and Drug Administration. AZmed says its tools are used by more than 2,500 healthcare facilities worldwide and have analysed over 15 million medical images.
Why it matters
India has a well-documented shortage of radiologists relative to its imaging volumes, particularly outside metros and in the public system that PPP diagnostics operators serve. AI triage on routine X-rays is one of the more mature use cases in medical imaging globally, and a large-scale evaluation inside an Indian PPP network will be closely watched as a test of whether such tools can raise throughput and turnaround times in real-world public health settings, rather than only in pilot studies.
