The Government of Gujarat has launched a ₹2 crore health assistance scheme for Scheduled Tribe (ST) patients, significantly expanding access to advanced medical treatments, including organ transplants and robotic surgeries.

Introduced by the Tribal Development Department, the initiative is designed to bridge financial gaps for critical treatments that are not fully covered under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) or the Mukhyamantri Amrutam (MA) scheme.

Under the new programme, eligible ST beneficiaries will receive financial support for high-cost procedures, ensuring improved access to life-saving healthcare services. The Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad, has been designated as the nodal agency to oversee implementation and facilitate treatment approvals.

The scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on tribal families while strengthening equitable access to specialised healthcare. By covering complex procedures such as organ transplantation and robotic-assisted surgeries, the initiative is expected to improve health outcomes for vulnerable communities across the state.

The move reflects Gujarat’s continued focus on inclusive healthcare delivery and enhanced social protection, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring quality medical care reaches underserved populations.
