CK Birla Hospital®, Delhi has completed 50 robot-assisted breast cancer surgeries, marking a significant milestone in advanced breast cancer care and establishing the hospital as the first centre in North India offering this specialised surgical approach.
The milestone was achieved under the leadership of Dr. Mandeep Singh Malhotra, Director – Surgical Oncology, who has been instrumental in introducing and advancing robotic breast cancer surgery techniques in the region. The programme reflects the hospital’s focus on delivering advanced and patient-centric cancer care.
Robot-assisted breast surgery enables cancer removal through minimal and strategically placed incisions while maintaining oncological safety. The technique supports faster recovery and improved psychological and cosmetic outcomes for women undergoing treatment.
Women across age groups, from their early thirties to mid-seventies, have benefited from this technique at CK Birla Hospital®, Delhi. Patients have been able to return to normal life sooner with reduced emotional and physical distress compared to conventional surgical approaches.
Commenting on the milestone, Dr. Mandeep Singh Malhotra said, “ Our aim is not only to make patients cancer-free but also to preserve their confidence, dignity, and body image. Robotic surgery allows us to achieve precise cancer clearance through minimal, hidden incisions, which greatly reduces the emotional trauma often associated with breast surgery. Seeing patients recover well and regain confidence is what drives us to continue pushing surgical boundaries.”
Dr. Malhotra added that robotic techniques have particularly benefited patients eligible for nipple-sparing and skin-sparing breast cancer surgeries; robotic assistance helps in making cancer resection more precise while simultaneously maintaining a natural appearance, significantly supporting emotional recovery.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to bringing advanced, patient-centric breast cancer care to North India. We aim to combine clinical excellence with compassion, while expanding access and supporting wider adoption of these techniques across the medical community,” Amit Sharma, Vice-President, CK Birla Hospital®, said.
Building on this milestone, CK Birla Hospital®, Delhi aims to further develop its services into a centre of excellence and teaching hub for robot-assisted breast surgery, sharing knowledge and training opportunities with surgeons across India.
The achievement reflects the role of advanced surgical expertise supported by institutional commitment in strengthening breast cancer treatment and improving patient outcomes.
