BahiaFarma, Biocon Biologics and Bionovis have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the pharmaceutical sector with a focus on oncology biologics development and manufacturing.
The agreement was signed during the India–Brazil Business Forum and aims to advance the development of Pertuzumab, a biologic therapy used in the treatment of HER-2 positive metastatic breast cancer. The collaboration will cover pharmaceutical development activities including active pharmaceutical ingredient development, formulation development, technology exchange and regulatory cooperation.
Under the MoU, the companies will jointly evaluate opportunities related to manufacturing processes, regulatory pathways, product registration and supply of oncology biologics. The partnership also includes scientific cooperation, technical training and exchange of specialised pharmaceutical expertise between participating organisations.
The agreement is valid for an initial period of 12 months with provisions for extension based on project progress and outcomes. The collaboration is estimated to involve an investment value of approximately USD 500 million.
Alongside this initiative, Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz and Biocon Pharma Ltd signed a separate agreement to collaborate on research and development of strategic pharmaceutical products, including therapies for rare diseases, oncology and immunosuppressant segments.
The partnerships focus on strengthening biologics development capabilities, advancing pharmaceutical manufacturing collaboration and supporting access to complex therapies through coordinated drug development and production efforts.
