Sun Pharma

Mumbai-based Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has announced the commercial launch of Unloxcyt (cosibelimab-ipdl) in the United States following an updated label approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), enabling wider clinical access to the cancer therapy.

Unloxcyt is a PD-L1 immunotherapy indicated for the treatment of adults with metastatic and locally advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) who are not candidates for curative surgery or radiation. The updated FDA label removes the earlier Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) requirement, which simplifies prescribing and allows broader use of the therapy across eligible patients.

With this regulatory update, Sun Pharma can now fully commercialise Unloxcyt in the US, supporting faster adoption by oncologists and improving patient access to immunotherapy in community and hospital oncology settings. The change is expected to help integrate the drug more seamlessly into cancer treatment pathways.

Unloxcyt was developed by Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company (SPARC) and later licensed to Sun Pharma for global development and commercialisation. The drug is manufactured at Sun Pharma’s biologics facility in the US, ensuring steady supply for healthcare providers and treatment centres.

The launch supports Sun Pharma’s strategy to strengthen its specialty and oncology portfolio in regulated markets, with a focus on delivering advanced therapies for high-unmet-need cancers. The company continues to expand beyond traditional generics into biologics and innovative treatments that can be integrated into modern, technology-enabled healthcare systems.

From an eHealth perspective, wider availability of immunotherapies like Unloxcyt is expected to enhance digital care coordination, remote monitoring, and data-driven oncology management, as providers increasingly rely on digital platforms to track outcomes, manage side effects, and optimise treatment pathways.

The commercial rollout of Unloxcyt is expected to contribute to Sun Pharma’s specialty growth in the US while supporting improved access to advanced cancer care for patients.
