DigitalOwl

Health-tech firm Datavant is expanding its reach in medical record retrieval and analytics by acquiring Israeli AI startup DigitalOwl, aimed at enhancing services for insurance and legal markets.

While the financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, media reports suggest the deal could be valued at around USD 200 million. This move builds on Datavant’s recent acquisitions—Ontellus (records retrieval) and Aetion (real-world evidence platform).

DigitalOwl specializes in converting unstructured medical records into structured insights via an AI platform. Under the combined operations, Datavant plans to integrate DigitalOwl’s engine with Ontellus’ capabilities to deliver an end-to-end data collaboration solution. Features will include managed retrieval, automated summarization, chronology construction, deduplication, and AI-driven predictive analytics.

In a statement, Datavant CEO Kyle Armbrester emphasized that the acquisition “fills a critical gap” in transforming raw health records into actionable insight—streamlining workflows for legal and insurance stakeholders. The combined platform is expected to reduce manual burden, accelerate decision-making, and promote reliability in claims adjudication and case resolution.

Looking ahead, Datavant intends to extend the solution beyond the legal and insurance sectors to include payer, provider, and life sciences sectors. The company claims its data exchange network already connects with over 80,000 hospitals/clinics, 75% of leading health systems, and more than 350 real-world data partners.
