MedLern and Laerdal

In a significant move to enhance clinical skills training in India, MedLern, a pioneer in hospital workforce development, has launched the state-of-the-art Modular Skills Trainer (MST) in collaboration with Laerdal Medical, a global leader in patient safety and simulation-based education. The unveiling event took place at Cytecare Hospitals, Bengaluru, marking a vital step forward in bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical proficiency.

The 16-in-1 Modular Skills Trainer, developed by Laerdal Medical, is a compact, hands-on training solution designed to support healthcare professionals, particularly nurses and paramedics, in mastering essential procedures such as nasogastric tube insertion, catheterisation, wound dressing, tracheostomy care, and injection techniques. Notably, the trainer enables both individual and group learning, eliminating the need for electricity or bulky setups, making it a game-changer for remote and in-classroom training environments.

Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Ramu, Co-founder & CEO of Cytecare Hospitals, emphasised the importance of practical skill-building in today’s digital healthcare landscape. “While digital platforms have democratized access to knowledge, the hands-on nature of patient care remains irreplaceable. This initiative signifies our commitment to cultivating a workforce that is not only informed but also prepared to respond in real-time clinical settings,” he noted.

MedLern’s Executive Chairman, Sameer Shariff, shared the organisation’s mission that stems from a deeply personal loss due to a preventable medical error. “Our journey began with a resolve to ensure better preparedness among healthcare workers. Today, we support over 125,000 professionals across 350 hospitals. Our partnership with Cytecare and the introduction of MST is another stride toward transforming healthcare training into a continuous, outcome-focused process,” he said.

Adding a global perspective, Sanjeev Singh, CEO of Laerdal Medical India, highlighted the value of integrating simulation with digital learning. “By blending psychomotor training with virtual simulations and structured assessments, we can nurture clinical judgment, decision-making, and communication, which are essential elements for improving patient safety,” he stated.

Built with lightweight, recycled materials, the MST is both eco-conscious and easy to transport, offering seamless deployment across various training scenarios without compromising on the depth of practice.

This collaboration underlines MedLern’s role as a catalyst in reshaping clinical education in India by delivering comprehensive, competency-based training solutions tailored for hospital environments. The initiative is poised to contribute significantly to capacity building and care quality enhancement within the Indian healthcare ecosystem.
