In a significant move to bolster its presence in North India, Metropolis Healthcare Limited, one of India’s leading diagnostic chains, announced the acquisition of Dehradun’s premier diagnostic provider, Dr. Ahujas’ Pathology & Imaging Centre (DAPIC). The acquisition was executed through Metropolis’ wholly owned subsidiary, Metropolis Histoxpert Digital Services Private Limited, via a business transfer agreement.
Established in 1990 by Dr. Alok Ahuja and Dr. Alka Ahuja, DAPIC has become a trusted name in Uttarakhand’s diagnostic landscape. Known for its clinical excellence and patient trust, the chain comprises two NABL and NABH accredited laboratories, 11 patient service centres, and nine hospital-based centres, offering a comprehensive range of pathology and soft radiology services including ultrasound, ECG, and X-ray.

For FY 2024-25, DAPIC reported an estimated revenue of INR 11.5 crore (unaudited), with 73% of its business stemming from pathology services and 27% from radiology. Notably, walk-in patients accounted for 80% of this revenue—an indicator of its strong B2C engagement and brand equity in the region.

The all-cash transaction, valued at INR 35.01 crore, will grant Metropolis 100% ownership of DAPIC. To ensure continuity and smooth transition, both Dr. Alok Ahuja and Dr. Alka Ahuja will remain actively involved in the business operations post-acquisition.

Strategic Integration into the ‘String of Pearls’ Growth Blueprint
Commenting on the development, Ameera Shah, Promoter and Executive Chairperson of Metropolis Healthcare Limited, said: “Dr. Ahujas’ Pathology & Imaging Centre has established a strong reputation for high-quality B2C services, scientific excellence, and patient trust, making it an ideal addition to Metropolis’ growth strategy. Together with the acquisition of Core Diagnostics, a leader in oncology testing, Scientific Pathology, the dominant chain in Agra, and now DAPIC, the leading diagnostic chain in Dehradun, we are further strengthening our ‘String of Pearls’ strategy—aimed at building a robust and regionally diverse diagnostic network across North India. These strategic moves have expanded the North India contribution to our overall revenues from 8% to an estimated 14–15%. Building on this momentum, we aim to accelerate our expansion across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand—two high-growth markets with significant potential. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Alok Ahuja and Dr. Alka Ahuja into the Metropolis family as we integrate DAPIC to further enhance patient care.”

Enhancing Reach in a High-Growth Market
According to Mr. Surendran Chemmenkotil, CEO of Metropolis Healthcare Limited “Uttarakhand is one of the fastest-growing diagnostic markets in North India, valued at approximately INR 500 crore. This acquisition strengthens our presence, expanding access to high-quality diagnostics while deepening engagement with doctors and patients. With the combined strength of DAPIC’s established network of labs and centres and Metropolis’ existing laboratory and six centres in Dehradun, we are now the second-largest diagnostic chain in Uttarakhand. This integration will enhance both B2B and B2C reach with a comprehensive test portfolio, including specialized diagnostics. Furthermore, we will expand accessibility through a structured franchise model, reinforcing our commitment to scientific excellence and superior healthcare delivery.”
A New Chapter for DAPIC
Dr. Alok Ahuja, Founder of Dr. Ahujas’ Pathology & Imaging Centre, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating “Metropolis Healthcare is one of the most respected diagnostic chains in India, synonymous with quality, scientific expertise, and patient trust. This partnership marks the perfect alignment for DAPIC’s next phase of growth. Our team has earned the trust of both the medical fraternity and the public in Uttarakhand, and we believe this collaboration will further elevate service standards and accessibility. With Metropolis’ advanced testing capabilities and strong brand recognition, we are confident of driving meaningful growth and innovation in the region—while preserving the legacy of excellence that DAPIC is known for.”
EY served as the exclusive financial adviser to DAPIC, while BDO India LLP advised Metropolis Healthcare Limited on the transaction.
As Metropolis continues to execute its regional growth strategy with precision, this acquisition further cements its commitment to expanding high-quality diagnostic services in emerging healthcare hubs across the country.
