In a significant move to reshape Delhi’s primary healthcare delivery, the Delhi government is set to introduce 70 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the city within the next 25 days, aiming to offer comprehensive health services at the grassroots level. This initiative, which follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Health Authority (NHA), will also see the full implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the capital.
Each of the 70 Mandirs will be strategically located in every assembly constituency to ensure local access to primary healthcare services. The broader plan includes the rollout of 1,139 such facilities across Delhi over the coming year, marking one of the most extensive public health infrastructure expansions in recent times.

The initiative is part of a wider transformation under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, who has outlined a roadmap to bolster healthcare accessibility, efficiency, and sustainability. Speaking on the reforms, CM Gupta highlighted that Integrated Diagnostic Labs will also be introduced in all 11 districts, enabling a complete range of testing services within reach of the public.

Shift Away from Rented Mohalla Clinics
As part of the restructuring, the government will begin shutting down rented mohalla clinics—an initiative launched by the previous AAP-led administration. While these neighborhood health centers were once celebrated for their outreach and accessibility, the current administration has raised concerns regarding their cost-effectiveness and long-term feasibility. The transition marks a clear shift in the state’s healthcare strategy, focusing on government-owned, better-equipped facilities offering integrated services under the national Ayushman Bharat framework.

New Investments in Health Infrastructure
Adding further momentum to the transformation, the Delhi government is set to receive Rs 2,400 crore in central funding. These resources will be directed toward critical infrastructure upgrades, including the establishment of 400 new Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) across the region. The objective is to strengthen preventive and promotive healthcare, with a renewed emphasis on early diagnosis and management of non-communicable diseases.
CM Gupta also addressed the operational inefficiencies in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. She noted that 24 hospitals launched during the pandemic remain non-functional or underutilized, pointing to systemic gaps left unaddressed by the previous regime. She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to activating these facilities and optimizing healthcare delivery across Delhi.

Implications for the Healthcare Ecosystem
For stakeholders in the healthcare industry—including healthtech providers, diagnostic companies, and infrastructure developers—these developments open up substantial collaborative opportunities. The expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and HWCs, coupled with increased federal funding, is likely to drive demand for medical equipment, diagnostics solutions, electronic health records, telemedicine platforms, and public-private partnerships in operational management and staffing.
The move also reinforces the growing alignment between state-level governance and national healthcare missions, offering a more cohesive framework for healthcare delivery and policy-driven innovation.
As Delhi embarks on this ambitious transformation, the healthcare industry will play a pivotal role in delivering scalable, technology-backed solutions that align with the government’s goals of equitable, accessible, and sustainable health services for all.
